Yes, that’s right. It’s time for the Oscars. Or, at least, it’s almost time for the Academy Awards, but first comes the nominations.
From Best Actor to Best Film, to Best Foreign Language Film, there will no doubt be a lot of great options to choose from, and the shortlist will be announced on Tuesday, February 8.
Here’s how you can watch the nominations as they’re revealed.
How To Watch the 2022 Oscar Nominations Online
The nominations will begin very early in the morning on Tuesday, February 8 with the shortlist being announced at 8:18 a.m. EST, which is 5:18 a.m. PST.
Despite the early wake-up call, the nominations will not take hours to be revealed, like the March ceremony often does, because there’s little time to spare when there are 120 entries in 23 categories to announce.
Leslie Jordan and Tracee Ellis Ross have been chosen to announce the nominations, which will likely be revealed during a 30-minute show.
The livestream will be available to watch on the Academy’s website Oscar.com, and Oscars.org, as well as on its social media platforms on Twitter, YouTube and Facebook.
As well as being presented on the Oscars’ official channels, the nominations are expected to be shown on news programs via national broadcast and streaming platforms like Good Morning America.
Who Will Be Nominated at the 2022 Oscars?
Ah, the age old question. Predicting the Oscars has always been a fun pastime and, because the ceremony is the last in the calendar, it is usually possible to guess correctly who will be nominated based on who was selected in other award show like the BAFTAs in the U.K. or the Critics Choice Awards.
However, because the COVID-19 pandemic has continued to delay ceremonies like the Critics Choice Awards, which was moved to March from January, it is a little harder to guess which films the Oscar voters will lean towards.
Still, there are some that seem likely to get a nod at the ceremony like Kenneth Branagh’s Belfast, or Kristen Stewart’s performance as Princess Diana in Pablo Larraín’s Spencer.
Encanto seems a sure choice to be shortlisted for Best Animated Film, and its hit song “We Don’t Talk About Bruno” also seems likely to get a nomination.
Will Smith’s performance in King Richard seems tailor-made for the Oscars, while Jane Campion’s The Power of the Dog won big at the Golden Globes so it could well do the same at the Oscars.
The Best Film category is set to have 10 nominations in total, so it will be interesting to see which films make the cut alongside safe bets like Belfast, The Power of the Dog, and West Side Story, which were all shortlisted at the Golden Globes.
