This year’s Oscars nominations will be revealed bright and early on Monday, beginning at approximately 8:19 a.m. ET. The two-part live show will live stream on Oscars.com and Oscars.org. Viewers will also be able to tune into the nominations show via the Academy’s social and digital platforms, including Facebook, Twitter and YouTube.
Priyanka Chopra Jonas, who appeared in Netflix’s 2021 crime drama The White Tiger, is set to announce the award nominations alongside her husband, singer and actor Nick Jonas. Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Director, Best Picture—the couple will reveal the contenders in those key categories and more.
This could eventually prove to be a landmark Oscars ceremony for women in film, with Chloé Zhao’s Nomadland, Regina King’s One Night in Miami and Emerald Fennell’s Promising Young Woman all expected to earn a few nominations on Monday. (Nomadland in particular is thought to be a serious frontrunner to win the Best Picture and Best Director fields, at the very least, especially after the film won big at the Golden Globes in February.)
Netflix is also positioned to have a number of projects competing for Oscars, between Aaron Sorkin’s crowd-pleasing The Trial of the Chicago 7 and George C. Wolfe’s aching production of Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom. Ma Rainey is tabbed to come up big in the Best Actor race, thanks to a memorable lead performance by the late Chadwick Boseman, who was awarded a posthumous Best Actor win at this year’s Golden Globes.
As for the actual Oscar awards ceremony, the April 25 event will be broadcast live on ABC from multiple locations, including the Dolby Theatre, where the spectacle is usually held.
“In this unique year that has asked so much of so many, the Academy is determined to present an Oscars like none other, while prioritizing the public health and safety of all those who will participate. To create the in-person show our global audience wants to see, while adapting to the requirements of the pandemic, the ceremony will broadcast live from multiple locations, including the landmark Dolby Theatre. We look forward to sharing more details soon,” a spokesperson for the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences told Variety in February.
The Oscars were originally planned to air on February 28, however, the Academy announced in June 2020 that it was postponing the ceremony in light of the ongoing pandemic. The Academy and ABC noted that they worked with the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health to plan its new date.
